Into the Wild: Our Alaska Adventure

Alaska had been on our list for a long time. Known as the Last Frontier, it is one of the most untouched and wild places in North America, filled with towering mountains, massive glaciers, and wildlife you rarely see anywhere else. When the opportunity finally came to explore it together, we knew it would be an unforgettable adventure. From the moment we landed, Alaska welcomed us with dramatic landscapes and endless wilderness. What followed was a journey filled with hiking, exploring, and taking in some of the most incredible scenery we had ever experienced.

The two and a half hour drive to Seward was filled with beautiful views of Alaska’s rugged landscape, making the journey just as enjoyable as the destination. Once we arrived, we boarded a cruise that took us out into the waters of Kenai Fjords National Park. Along the way we saw incredible scenery with towering cliffs, glaciers, and wildlife all around us. It was one of those moments where you constantly look around, trying to take in the beauty of Alaska from every direction.

As we made our way toward Denali National Park, we stopped in the small and colorful town of Talkeetna. The town had a charming atmosphere, and we were lucky enough to catch a rare glimpse of Mt. Denali from the viewpoint. After exploring the town, we continued into the park for a wildlife bus tour that brought us deeper into the wilderness. Seeing the vast landscape and wildlife reminded us how much there is to explore in this incredible national park.

On the third day we traveled north to Fairbanks and visited the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center. The exhibits gave us a deeper understanding of Alaska’s history, Native cultures, and the way people have lived in this unique environment. Afterward we explored downtown Fairbanks and stopped at Soapy Smith’s Pioneer Restaurant. Later that day we relaxed at Chena Hot Springs, soaking in the warm mineral water surrounded by Alaska’s peaceful landscape.

The fourth day brought us to the Santa Claus House in North Pole, Alaska, where Christmas is celebrated year round. It was a fun and unexpected stop that added a playful moment to the trip. From there we began our drive south, passing through the beautiful landscapes near Palmer. The longer route was well worth it because of the incredible mountain and valley views along the way.

Day five brought one of the most exciting adventures of the trip as we hiked the Matanuska Glacier with a guided tour. Walking across the massive glacier felt surreal as we explored the icy formations and learned about its history. We even drank fresh water straight from the glacier and tried glacier clay masks. It was an unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our time in Alaska.

Our final day in Alaska was the perfect way to wrap up the trip. We started with a scenic hike that led us to a beautiful waterfall surrounded by nature. Later we returned to Beluga Point to take in the sweeping ocean views and reflect on the week of adventure. Before saying goodbye, we spent time together in the city enjoying our last moments of the trip.

As the trip came to an end, we felt grateful for everything we experienced together. From glaciers and wildlife to small towns and incredible landscapes, each day brought something new. Even more meaningful were the friendships and memories created along the way. Alaska left a lasting impression that will stay with us long after the journey ended.
